A walk round the grounds is fascinating and every season brings a new surprise.
You do have to pay to enter the Greenhouses (£5) but that is optional.
You can easily spend a couple of hours wandering round. There are often special exhibits on, plus restaurant, shop and cafe. On a lovely sunny day there are few better places to relax in the city. A very tranquil and serene place.
About a 15 minute taxi ride from Rossie Place. No direct buses from near Rossie Place. The Majestic Edinburgh Bus Tour stops here. Alternatively, get bus heading to Princes Street – 4, 15, 26, 44. Get off at Queen Street. Around a 20 min walk down hill.
Nearby is the area of Stockbridge, with cool cafés and bars. Look out for St Stephen's Street which has quirky clothes shops, restaurants and art galleries.
